Re;A Hero’s Fantastic blessing-filled Life! EX
Arc 1 - “Despair’s Door”
Chapter 3 - “Return by Death”
When those words hit his ears, he stood there in confusion.
“What? How does she not remember?”
“Are you going to do something besides stare at the ground?”
Hearing those words brought him back to reality.
“Beatrice…… Have I talked to you yesterday about the concept of recurring dreams?”
“No. And, even if we did, I would remember it, I suppose.”
———
“Wait, what if—”
“Beatrice! Do you know if it’s possible to see the future in dreams?”
“As far as I know, there has only been one person able to do that, I suppose. But even then, it wasn’t properly explained how he could do it, I suppose.”
“Is it possible for someone to inherit someone else’s ability, without having a relationship with them?”
“It is possible, I suppose. However, about 70–80% of the time is when someone is able to inherit someone else’s ability with having a relationship. But, as I have already stated, it’s not too far-fetched to not have a relation with one another and inherit their abilities.”
“Ah! Thank you, Beatrice!”
“Get away from me, I suppose!”
She kicks him out of the Library with an invisible gust, for trying to hug her. Unlike the other times, Justice didn’t care that he was kicked. He was psyched about realizing his newfound ability.
“Yes!––– I’ve got to tell dad about this soon!”
One of the twin maids approached him. She had pink hair, the older of the twin maids, Ram.
“Justice-sama, Philip-sama has requested me to tell you that he will be canceling your guys’ training today.”
This was the first thing that didn’t go according to Justice’s dream. In his dream, the younger of the maids approached him and told him that Philip was calling him to the backyard to train.
“Huh? That didn’t happen in my dream…… Maybe my precognition power has its limits.”
“Alright. Thanks for telling me, Ram.”
After that, Justice proceeds to spend his day, the same as he did in his dream. There were a few different events that happened, from time to time. Though, They were very minor events. And, more often than not, the day was the same. There was just more one thing from his dream, that he decided to not repeat.
Visiting Beatrice in the Library a second time to ask her about the subject that she hated so much—
Love.
He hops onto his bed, the exact same way he did the previous time. He stares at the ceiling…… Until he eventually falls asleep. It wasn’t long until he woke up, however.
Yawn.
“What time is it?…”
Like his previous dream, he hears knocking on the doors. But unlike his dream, it was very late at night when he heard the knocking. Being half asleep, he decides to open the door.
——!!
He walks backward, and looks at his arm—— half of it was missing. Moments of silence was followed by a long scream. His entire right leg was cut off, what Justice would’ve perceived as “an eternity.”
He falls down. In his last effort to survive, he tries crawling away from the door, but with only one arm left, and blood just pouring out of his body, that proves to be impossible. Justice eventually stops moving and starts getting visions of everything and everyone he’s seen in his life.
“He…lp…… me……”
He tries to scream for help, but the scream only comes out as a whisper. And then, he hears one final voice——!
“Bye!~”
Justice wakes up screaming——
“Huh? My… left arm……”
“Was that all just a dream——? No— the pain was too real to be a part of just a dream—”
At that moment, Justice remembered a dream about the girl.
“You… will die.”
“————!!!!”
“Would that mean that the same time I had that dream— I died?”
Everything began to come together. He realized that his special ability was not being able to foresee the future in dreams. It was something else. Something completely different. It was––
Return by Death.
The ability to return to a specific point in time after the user dies. It rewinds time and returns to a “save-point” which Justice had made. In this case, the “save-point” was when he went to go sleep in his bed.
As he realized that, he opened his door, and saw the same thing he saw the previous times. The twin maids working. He closed the door, and opened it again, revealing the Forbidden Library. He walked to where the overseer was and stared at her, as if he wanted to ask her something, but didn’t want to sound rude.
“Stop staring at me, I suppose!”
“Beatrice, do you have any record of someone being able to Return to a specific point in time, by Death?”
…………
“……What? I don’t ever recall someone having a weird ability of that. Though, still, on the topic of that, how did you even discover it, I suppose?”
“Well—— I can Return by Dea—”
Justice stops talking. It’s like his vocal cords just stopped working. Beatrice having the same expression as usual, stops moving.
Everything turns into a monochromatic black and white color. A girl appears. She was pitch-black. All of the blackness falls off of her like water. Which reveals a girl who looked almost exactly like the girl he saw in his dreams. His heart begins to hurt as she moves. It starts to hurt more and more, each time she moves closer.
Hands made out of shadows appear and start caressing Justice everywhere. One of the hands began touching Justice’s heart, effectively stopping it from hurting as she continues walking closer. When she gets close enough to him, she gives him a seductive look and caresses his cheeks.
With that, she disappears, and everything returns to normal.
“Are you alright, I suppose? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
Suddenly, the Library’s doors fly open.
“Justice!”
“Mom…?”
“Your father is going little busy this week, so he told me to substitute for him this week, and train you.”
“Oh, alright. But why is Ms. Darkness with you?”
He points at a tall woman, Darkness. She gives the expression of a “Cool Beauty”. She had light blue eyes and straight, long blonde hair, that was being kept in a ponytail tied with a braid, along with that, she was wearing Clad Armor.
“She…… wanted to be the "test subject" for Magic……”
“I forgot that she was a masochist…”
After that, all three of them went to the Mansion’s incredibly big backyard. It has several amazing characteristics, such as that it is full of grass. Besides, there are also several paths where you can walk. On the sides you can see small fields full of flowers, you can also see some large trees and other small trees, as well as bushes.
“So Justice, Philip taught you how to wield a sword right?”
“Yeah, he taught me how to use a little bit of Wind Magic as well.”
“Perfect.”
She gives him a sword. Much to Justice’s surprise, she requests that he fight her with it.
“Wait! You want me to fight you with a real sword?!”
“Yes.”
“Wh—”
“Here I go!”
She charges straight at Justice.
“What? How does she not remember?”
“Are you going to do something besides stare at the ground?”
Hearing those words brought him back to reality.
